Photos of our 2009 Cruise of Lake Michigan - Marybeth & Rip Edmundson
We left
Milwaukee on Sunday, August 9th and sailed to Sheboygan, Wisconsin in the
company of seven other sailboats from the Lake Michigan Hunter Sailing
Association. We partied there for two days before crossing the Lake as a
group to Pentwater, Michigan. The party continued there for two more days.
Marybeth and
Rip headed for Manistee, Michigan on the 13th. Our friends, Ken and Linda
Kaim, were called home to fly to Louisiana. Ken and Linda sailed 13 hours
straight to get back to Milwaukee to fly out. The rest of the group sailed
South to Grand Haven and White Lake because they all had to be back in
Racine by the weekend.
We explored
Manistee and spent the night in the municipal marina. On Friday, we
motor-sailed to Frankfort. There was 20-30 knots of wind from the South and
we had our only excitement of the cruise. Despite rigging preventers, we had
three unplanned jibes. They broke the preventers and the last one ripped the
cam cleat for the traveler line from the deck and threw it through the
dodger, shattering the plastic window.
We stayed at
Jacobson Marina in Frankfort for four days, extending two extra days because
of heavy wind and rain on the Lake. It was beautiful in town. The marina had
a pool. hot tub, boater's lounge, and restaurant. We were right down town
and by the bike trail. On Saturday, there was a car show on the lake shore,
a book sale downtown and an art show at the town square. On Sunday we biked
around the lake at Frankfort to the neighboring town of Elberta.
On Tuesday, we
sailed back across the Lake to Kewaunee, Wisconsin. We had been here before
in 2006 so we just relaxed for the evening and cooked on the boat. In the
morning, we sailed to Manitowoc where we spent two nights. Our last stop was
Port Washington. We got back to Milwaukee on Saturday, August 22nd.
